Dance apparel

One of the most important characteristics of dance apparel is that it should compliment and harmonize with the dance. A costume that is both showy and restricts movement can ruin an otherwise-flawless performance.

What is dance apparel commonly made out of?
• Lycra
• Cotton
• Microfiber
• Cotton/Lycra blend

Dance apparel found in common retail stores is often made of a heavy cotton/Lycra blend, but barely-there microfiber will provide better movement. Large dancers who may feel self conscious in thin material (leotards, etc.) will have better luck with thick, stretchy Lycra.
